Beauty Spotlight: Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman is always ahead of the pack, especially when it comes to style.
While a majority of the red carpet crowd is just now figuring out bangs and fuchsia lipstick, Portman has moved on. Case in point: her sophisticated, wildly foxy look at the 22nd Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards Gala.
The rule of thumb has always been to focus on either the lips OR the eyes, but the Black Swan star went even further and made her whole look about lashes. Just lashes.
Portman’s sleek, glossy cap of hair, white, yellow and rose gold and diamond baby trinity earrings by Cartier, and clean-lined Vionnet shift were pure ’20s sophistication. Soft pink lips and cheeks and thick, straight brows read youthful freshness. Then: a gorgeous, feathery explosion of lashes, lashes, lashes.
But Portman wasn’t born like that. A heavy, Italian-movie-star fringe of extensions on both her upper and lower lash lines (concentrating on the outer corners) curl up and out, gave a burst of hectic romance.
Against all her minimalism, they were the perfect contrast. Anything more would have been too much, but worn in such perfect proportion, Portman was supernaturally beautiful and took center stage without smacking of effort.
No heavy liner—just a touch of shimmer in the corners to give the look an ethereal, innocent balance.
