Oscars 2011 Beauty: Soft Makeup
Those looking for a bold beauty moment at the 2011 Oscars are likely still searching. By and large, the makeup was soft, safe and devoid of a “statement” anything.
Subtly defined eyes, rosy cheeks, and sheer, natural-looking lip color were the order of the night for Natalie Portman, Nicole Kidman, Cate Blanchett, Gwyneth Paltrow, Scarlett Johansson, Jennifer Lawrence, and especially, Michelle Williams.
“Ethereal and sparkling” is how makeup artist Jeanine Lobell described Williams’s look, and FashionEtc found out how she helped the Oscar nominee achieve it.
“Michelle’s skin is so fresh and beautiful,” says Lobell, who kept things light by using a sheer foundation topped with a touch of translucent pressed powder.
“For eyes, we went for a light, ethereal smoky look by mixing the shades in the Chanel Quadra Eye Shadow in Smoky Eyes,” she says. “I used the silvery shade as a base and then used the pewter shade, taking it from the lash line up into the crease, adding shape to the eye. I then smudged the same shade in the lower lash line. I used the black shade blended into the pewter as a liner.”
Lobell then applied a few false lashes to the center of the lash line, finishing with several coats of mascara on the top and bottom lashes. Next, she used Chanel Precision Brow Definer in Blond Clair to enhance Williams’s arches.
“To create a glowing pink cheek, I applied Chanel Blush Duo Tweed Effect in Tweed Pink. I mixed her lip color, Chanel Rouge Coco Lip Colour in Rose Dentelle, with a bit of the Vitalumière Aqua foundation, which creates the effect of the lips blending into the face.”
The result was truly striking, with nary a strong feature in sight.
