Fashion Week Diary, Day Two.
I don’t know if it’s an FNO hangover, but it feels like day five today. I couldn’t even wear heels today. On the bright side, I wore color! Well, green flats. But it counts.
There comes a point every Fashion Week—usually mid-week—when, thanks to circumstances beyond your control, you miss a show. For me, that was today. A bit early, but with all the traffic mishaps happening around town, seeing Peter Som’s collection wasn't meant to be. And judging by the photos, I missed a good one!
That set the tone for the rest of the day—which was spent in transit. (Seriously, I need a driver. Anyone willing to cart me around town?) I did make it to NAHM, the line designed by Nary Manivong and Ally Hilfiger. The room was so packed with photographers it was close to impossible to see the models lounging about. But I’m short and wily, so I managed to sneak peeks. The season is all about cute dresses and Parisians in Laos circa the ’70s. Hard to fathom? Just imagine sweet white looks, striped maxi dresses, and schoolgirl ruffles.
Following NAHM, I went to see yet another duo: Costello Tagliapietra. Jeffrey and Robert are known for their draped jersey dresses, and this time they sent out a slew in colors including a gorgeous slate gray. Finally! I have a color I can wear come spring! Mixed in with the solid hues was an explosion of florals (it is the season for it, after all). The collection was inspired by Georgia O’Keefe, and if you’re the sort who can’t get enough of the print, you’ll be in heaven. The Costello boys also gave us a return of print-on-prints. We saw this trend in recent seasons, and I have to tell you, it’s not an easy look to pull off. But if you can do it, more power to you.
Next up on my tour de Manhattan, Rag & Bone. Set in a warehouse space on the west side of Manhattan (even my cab driver was unsure of the location), the collection was all about peek-a-boo knits, sporty glasses, and layers and layers and layers. For spring! The show started with theatrics: Part of the runway lifted up to become the ceiling. I was duly impressed.
At this point in the day, I was late for my last and final show. Would I miss two in one day? Can that happen? There wasn’t a cab in sight. But I ran into the Nicole Miller show just in time for the lights to dim. The collection referenced biking, but all the loose separates reminded me of school days and shopping at Esprit, which used to be everyone’s favorite. If you’re old enough, you’ll get it. (For more on Nicole Miller, read the review.)
I would head off to a party tonight but tomorrow is another busy day. So some much needed beauty rest, it is.
