Apparently poor Kate Middleton can’t avoid a sartorial scandal even when she’s not sunbathing topless.

The Duchess of Cambridge suffered a fashion faux pas during her trip to the South Pacific when she appeared at a Solomon Islands state dinner in a pink floral dress originating from—uh oh—the Cook Islands, which is located some 3,000 miles away, the Telegraph reports.

The incident occurred when a welcoming committee staffer accidentally laid out the wrong outfits for Middleton and Prince William to wear.

“We are incredibly frustrated that this situation has come about and see Kethie [the welcoming committee staffer] as entirely to blame,” says an official from the Government House of the Solomon Islands.
"It was completely inappropriate for her to go to Their Royal Highnesses' room, which she filled with various things, causing confusion."

Meanwhile, a royal spokesman says that efforts were made to clear up the mistake, but the outfits were still given the green light.

"We saw they weren't the same design of the traditional clothes we were told would be gifted, so we checked with the Solomon Islands government to ensure the right ones were worn,” a Clarence House spokesman explained.

“We were reassured the clothes were correct, and so the Duke and Duchess wore them to the event. It was not learned until later in the evening that the clothes weren't from the islands. But it was understood that the Duke and Duchess intended to wear traditional Solomon Island clothes and this was appreciated. No offense was caused.”

We don’t know who to feel more sorry for—Kethie, or scandal-plagued Kate.
