The Marc by Marc Jacobs kids have been sent, it seems, to military school for Fall 2012. Oh, don't feel sorry for them; their uniforms are utterly chic, crisp, and walking the line of subversive.
Perhaps it was the music playing ("Order of Death" by Public Image Ltd.) or the partially shaved heads on the male models, but we couldn't help but feel that these teens were about to explode. As impeccable as everyone looked in their military threads, they were about to tear something down.
But onto the clothes. Floral dresses (with combats), Shetland fur coats (with combats), slim-fitting tweeds (with, yep, combats) made for a slightly preppy look (yes, even with the combats). The fit on pieces brought to mind the '80s (a sweatshirt with a pleated skirt) but it was the accessories that really stole the show. Tall drum hats in black and navy, Navy (as in the Navy) felt hats in assorted colors really hammered home a military trend. Bold black glasses seemed less hipster and more nostalgic. Toggle coats and looks as prim as uniforms mixed with gold lurex coats, skirts, and dresses. The result was certainly interesting and intriguing.
If one read too far into things, it could be said this was some commentary on youth culture and the recent uprisings both here and around the world. But we'll just say that there were some lovely pieces, and leave it at that.
