Kate Middleton’s Wedding Dress: Not Bruce Oldfield!
We may not yet have confirmation on who is designing Kate Middleton’s wedding dress, but we definitely know who isn’t: much-buzzed-about favorite Bruce Oldfield.
“It has been such a subject of rumor and speculation over the past months, but I am not designing it,” Oldfield—who was considered a front-runner to design the royal bride-to-be’s gown and even hinted that she’d wear sleeves—tells Women’s Wear Daily. “We will all know [on Friday]—and I thought I’d duck out of the ‘possibles list’ to give everyone 24 hours to place their final bets!”
Cheeky!
But come on, what might we expect when Miss Middleton walks into Westminster Abbey on April 29?
“Catherine will undoubtedly look spectacular,” says Oldfield, whose designs have been worn by royalty and celebrities ranging from Princess Diana to Rihanna. “She has a fantastic figure and knows well what suits her. I shall be intrigued to see her choice of design.”
As shall we, sir; as shall we. Which is precisely why speculation continues as to who received the plum assignment. Alexander McQueen’s Sarah Burton, Libélula’s Sophie Cranston, and Phillipa Lepley have all denied that they are designing Middleton’s dress.
Other possible couturiers to the princess-in-waiting include Catherine Walker, Alice Temperley, Issa’s Daniella Helayel, and Jenny Packham, whose bias-cut, slim silhouettes have been seen on A-listers including Keira Knightley, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Lopez. A spokesperson for the British designer told WWD, however, that the company was “not commenting at all on the wedding.”
Middleton’s actual dress designer may be keeping mum, but her hairstylist, Richard Ward, has gotten to the root of the matter and revealed that the British beauty’s hair will look “natural” when she exchanges vows with Prince William.

“The one rule is by the time she gets to the end of the altar her husband must recognize her,” he told E! online.
With so many questions still left unanswered and all of England placing bets on everything from whether Middleton will complete her wedding-day look with the Russian Fringe Tiara or flowers to what color hat the Queen will don for the royal wedding (put your money on yellow), there is one thing you can absolutely count on, according to WWD: Duchess of Cornwall Camilla will wear a number by Anna Valentine, who designed the dress for her nuptials to Prince Charles.
