Sporty looks from the Victoria Beckham, Monique Lhuillier, and Alexander Wang Spring 2012 runways
Athletics have long been a reference point for fashion, but this season, it seems designers have been not-so-secretly indulging in some major ESPN.
The perpetually glam Victoria Beckham kicked things off by giving her sleek and sexy dresses a utility bent with thick grosgrain ribbon straps and sporty hooded coats. Utilitarian, yes—but you’ll still turn plenty of heads.
Alexander Wang’s tomboy muse is no stranger to sports, but for spring, he got down and dirty with a collection inspired by motocross racing and BMX biking; several of his looks even came with a BMX helmet perfectly matched to their ensembles.
Even girly-girl gown designer Monique Lhuillier got in on the action, with streamlined, sexy dresses that would benefit from a swimmer’s buff shoulders.
Nicole Miller and Rag & Bone both offered drawstring-waist track pants, while the latter also showed hoodies, and goggles, and sweatband-esque cuffs. And Tommy Hilfiger’s high-necked maillots were ready for laps.
Re-up that gym membership, ladies: With workout options this chic, now you really have no excuse for skipping out on your gym visits.
