Fall 2012 Trend: Country Living

Looks like we’re not the only ones who can’t get enough of Lady Mary and Matthew Crawley.
Fashion month may hit all the major style capitals of the world, but by the looks of things, there’s no place like the English countryside—and we suspect the fashion world’s fascination with all things Downton Abbey might just have something to do with this.
Ralph Lauren was the most overt in his references toward the PBS phenomenon, showing rural retreat-ready tweed overcoats, flat caps, and even some eveningwear that looked made for Mary, Cora, and company.
Christopher Bailey titled his Fall 2012 collection for Burberry Town and Field, and his caps and waxed cotton parkas weren’t the only hints that we weren't in the big city anymore: He scattered country creatures like owls across tees.

Of course, there’s no need to book that flight to the United Kingdom to get in on this. Michael Kors’ take on luxed-up country fare was—like all things Kors—as all-American as it gets.
And at Douglas Hannant, Tommy Hilfiger, and Ruffian, cozy equestrian details like jodhpurs, oxfords, silk scarves and more would look just right at a cabin in the Adirondacks—Hannant even scattered colorful fall leaves right across his runway.
Urban? Not so much. Impeccable? Absolutely. Now, anyone game for an upstate getaway?
